Simple Wisdom

“You are stronger than you know. God is with you and he has the strength you need each and every day.” A wrinkled hand gently held mine as wise eyes peered into my heart knowing exactly what I needed to hear. This sweet, old lady had no idea what I was walking through. She didn’t know my family, she had only met me and Finley moments before. It seemed that God was showing up, interrupting my day to say loud and clear, “I see you and I am with you.” 

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, savoring the words of comfort that were just spoken over me. My heart received them like a precious gift and for  a brief moment I felt hopeful for the first time in a long time. I pulled Finley closer as I held her on my lap.

“Thank you. I needed to hear that.”

“Honey, you are going to be ok. God has given you this child for a special purpose and he chose you to be her mama. He does not make mistakes. He is good and faithful.”

Another drink of truth to savor. I smiled to myself knowing that these words were easy to receive from this 80 year old lady. She had lived most of her life and she knew that life is far from easy and far from what we expect it to be yet she walks with Jesus. 

“Can I pray for you?”

The tears came. Her simple question full of understanding and care. I searched her eyes and saw no judgement there, only grace and a shared sorrow. 

“Yes.”
